With spring comes an abundance of rain, and the quiet little creek in our backwoods swells, making a large swath of the regular path unpassable. Numerous flooded areas extend up the banks, across the trail, and deep into the woods.
One spring, I tried going for a walk, and between trying to keep my footing on the remaining ice patches and not stepping in the huge puddles, it proved quite tricky.
In fact, I got a couple of ice-cold soakers along the way.
The next day, after even more rain, I decided to try again. This time, I remembered I owned a pair of rubber boots.
What a difference.
This time, feet adequately protected, I easily walked through the edges of the large puddles and bypassed them without much effort. My feet stayed warm and dry.
I was instantly reminded of the armor of God.
Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
(Ephesians 6:13-18, NLT)
Just like my boots, it’s one thing to know about the armor – and another thing to put it on and use it against the enemy’s schemes.
We want to be able to stand firm. Are you wearing your armor today?
